Restoring focus

Precisely constructing Dictionary.com’s most-requested feature

As Dictionary.com’s word-loving audience became inundated with ad placements, requests surged for an ad-free experience.

In addition to my role as design lead for the ad-free subscription feature, I also assisted the product management team in developing the strategy for our new paid offerings. I regularly engaged with key stakeholders to further define a vision that aligned with the company’s broader objectives. I worked with PMs to conduct extensive research on competitors and other comparable products to benchmark our offering and identify opportunities for differentiation.

As this was a highly-requested feature, analyzing the feedback from customer support was a crucial input. This feedback helped me understand the most common pain points and preferences of our users, which improved the definition of specific user journeys. I created wireframes, interactive prototypes, and developed comprehensive design specs for each component of the experience.

Throughout the development phase, I worked closely with the engineering team to answer questions and ensure accuracy. As we neared launch, I collaborated with the marketing team to craft a launch plan that included targeted messaging and promotional strategies. I also worked alongside the QA team to perform final checks and make any necessary refinements.

We launched the ad-free subscription in January 2024. Post-launch, I actively collected and analyzed user feedback to identify areas for improvement. This ongoing analysis helped us plan future refinements to better meet the needs of our users and enhance their experience with Dictionary.com.
